As
pré-estabelecidos.</span></p>

students regarding the use of corporal punishment by primary and secondary
school teachers in Timor-Leste. The study involved 215 participants, comprising
130 men and 85 women, aged between 20 and 25 years old, enrolled in the fifth
and eighth semesters of Education and Human and Social Sciences courses at the
Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e. Participation was voluntary and
participants' identities were kept anonymous, with only their age, gender,
place of birth, course, and semester recorded. Divided into seven groups, each
consisting of around 30 students, the participants completed a questionnaire
containing five multiple-choice questions, accompanied by written
justifications. The survey was conducted in Tetun, one of the official and
widely spoken languages in the country. The survey data reveals that a
significant majority (94.4%) of the participants experienced some form of
corporal punishment from teachers in the classroom. A considerable portion
(80.4%) of those who were subjected to corporal punishment agreed with the
possibility of teachers using physical discipline to teach classroom content or
correct behaviors deemed deviant or inappropriate according to pre-established
standards of conduct.</span></h2>
