The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at The University of Western
Ontario, one of

Canada's leading research intensive universities, seeks applicants  
for the
endowed Hannah

Chair in the History of Medicine. Applications are invited for a
tenure-track appointment at the

Associate Professor, or if qualifications and experience warrant, a  
higher
rank. The appointment

will be made into the appropriate academic department in the Schulich  
School
of Medicine &

Dentistry, with an opportunity for a cross-appointment to the  
Department of
History or other

department at The University of Western Ontario, depending on  
qualification
and discipline.

Qualified applicants will hold a PhD/MD or equivalent.



The successful applicant will be a scholar in one or more of the  
disciplines
in the History of

Medicine. The fundamental objective of the Hannah Chair will be to
contribute significantly

through teaching and research to the body of scholarship in the  
History of
Medicine, with specific

focus on teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, including
undergraduate medical

students.



An extensive rare book collection and a large catalogued artifact
collection, combined with an

active group of scholars who span disciplines across the campus, will  
enable
the success of the

Hannah Chair. An interdisciplinary Centre for the History of Medicine,
housed within the Schulich

School of Medicine & Dentistry will be developed to expand  
collaboration and
scholarship. The

successful candidate will be expected to be actively involved in the
development and operation of

the Centre.



With full-time enrollment of about 32,000, The University of Western  
Ontario
graduates students

from a full range of academic and professional programs. The university
campus is located in

London, a city of 250,000, located midway between Toronto and  
Detroit. With
parks, tree-lined

streets and bicycle trails, London is known as the "Forest City". London
boasts an international

airport, art museums, theatre, music and sport related recreational
activities expected of a larger

centre.
