For those of you who haven't heard this yet, I'm sad to report the news of the passing of one of the giants of international environmental law, and a personal mentor of mine, Patricia Birnie. Pat was both an incredible scholar and an incredible friend to many of us. Her work in the field, especially in the context of ocean law, established the foundation for the efforts of many of us in the field. Her wit and sparkle will be sorely missed. wil
