and for teaching 'media literacy' - analysis and critique of the formal
publishing organs: where does their money come from? How much to they
protest editorial independence from those financial sources? What is the
power relationship with the government powers of the day? This is one of
the true benefits of open publishing like blogs etc. The hard part there is
that there is too much of it. I know the professional journalists will hate
this, but sometimes modern newspapers are no more than spiffed up blogs.
They are often more opinion and editorial than factual stories, or worse,
Roger Clarke's and Richard's common complaint of mouthpieces for company
spin sheets proffered by lazy journos who wouldn't know how to develop and
critical story if their livelihoods depended on it.
