Some of the nonsense being written about Telstra ditching FTTN is
amazing. I saw something in the SMH a few days ago claiming that
Australia would never get bandwidths over 1.5Mbps, totally ignoring
the fact that iiNet and Optus and TPG and Internode and so forth have
hundreds of thousands of customers doing just that.
If you look at Telstra's FTTN plan, they were only going to
push it out to the 70% of people inside core metropolitan areas.
And if you look at iiNet's analysis of _actual_ bandwidths for
customers with ADSL2 modems, it's obvious that nearly everyone
in those areas can get 6Mbps+ using existing infrastructure. See
