There's this enormous factory city in China. It's called "Shenzen".

It produces everything for everybody, from velcro strips to
SHARC DSP chips for audio apps and even batteries. You send a rep
over there, he takes your design and the factory builds it.

When they have finished fabricating, they steal your design
and produce even cheaper version of it, for local consumption
or the pirate trade.

Nearly everyone who gets something made over there has a competitor
who is getting something very similar done, usually in the same
factory and often with the same components, where not proprietry.

All those batteries probably came out of similar batches with a lot
of related components, only the form factor is different.

One day, Shenzen will stop producing ipods, cheap audio products,
DSP chips and exploding laptop batteries and start producing cruise missiles,
with aussie uranium.
