Question: since there is only so much money to go around, is there 
any evidence to support the idea that the moneys that used to be put 
into the competitive pure/applied research that was unaligned with 
commercial interests into subsidies in the private sector? Has the 
CRC experiment failed?

PS: I heard today that Monash Uni sacked 60 academics and staff in 
their IT department. Can any linkers comment?
