Gordon,
I would have thought that to maximise the chance to of successfully
reading and understanding the bitstream in the future (which is the
whole purpose of archiving and preserving the thing) that
uncompressed video, although large in the space requirement,
represents the best archival format. Any compression is surely a by
product of the delivery and display technology in use and thus this
will change over time as delivery and display environment get better.
Raw DV is a well documented format and thus this would be my
recommendation as to archival format.
