Interesting observation, Ivan. I wonder if it has to do with the
mobility factor and cost. Text messages restrict to bite sized chunks
without getting into long conversations which cost more money. But if
you're on the computer and have the bandwidth, AND you're most likely
doing that from home, you would use that device for less cost. When
wireless broadband becomes more pervasive, mobility will possibly go
out of the equation. Maybe the real determinants are the interaction
of bandwidth accessibility and cost?
I was going to try to make a connection with Negroponte's thesis
about (broadcast and narrowcast) and (wired and unwired) but can't
remember it at the moment. Maybe someone else can think that one through! :-)
