might work in america, but we have preferential voting here not just a
simple yes or no. would need to be a LOT more complicated, and allow a
final review of the entire vote before printing it. all of which would
take a very long time on, e.g., senate ballots.

exactly.
like it or not, the current assisted-voting practice is the least harmful
method.
