That would then place an unelected High Court -- which can easily be stacked
by a party in power for a decade -- in a higher position than the elected
parliament.

I don't know that this is preferable to the present unelected GG situation,
with a Queen having (theoretical) oversight.

Even more important in reforming the Australian parliamentary system would
be to make the speaker of the House and Senate impartial -- perhaps an ex
Chief Justice.  Certainly it should be someone acceptable to (say) 75% of
the elected members, and chosen by a parliamentary secret ballot.

On the question of Langer.  I don't remember what the HC outcome was, but it
was a clear abuse of government power to charge him, in my opinion.  He was
from the far left, and they were being vindictive.
