Australian authorities said Tuesday they had seized the computer of a
man suspected of sending more than two billion spam emails touting the
male enhancement drug Viagra.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), which issued
the search warrant, would not identify the man or his whereabouts, but
said that it acted on a tip from OPTA, the Dutch Independent Regulator
of Post and Telecommunications. According to OPTA, an Australian was
responsible for sending a large number of spam messages using servers in
the Netherlands.

"Preliminary analysis of the email messages contained in the spam
campaign has identified that over two billion emails were sent in one
spam campaign,' said Lyn Maddock, the acting chairperson of ACMA, in a
statement. "ACMA analysis to date has identified that the messages in
the spam campaign primarily promoted Viagra products."
