The HP2600n isn't supported 'officially' because it uses an
unsupported-under-linux printing protocol (ZJS) rather than
HP's staples of PS and PCL.
If you want a printer to work directly from Linux, your best bet is
still to refer to the 'supported' list and choose one that's on the list.
And to write to vendor-you-didn't-choose saying "I didn't buy printer
X because it is not supported under Linux".
That being said, 'foo2hp' will allos you to print directly to this
printer - the instructions at http://foo2hp.rkkda.com/ will
get you off the ground with most distributions.
