A MICROSOFT alumni has been picked as the federal Government's access
card visionary, with the software giant's public sector boss Marie
Johnson winning the job of directing the project.

Ms Johnson, currently Microsoft's Seattle-based executive director of
worldwide public services, will return to Australia next month to take
up the job of chief technology architect for the card.

She previously headed the e-business division of the Department of
Industry Tourism and Resources.

"Ms Johnson is an extremely able and experienced IT executive," said
Human Services Minister Joe Hockey. "I'm delighted she has been lured
back to Australia by the prospect of working on this exciting project."

Ms Johnson will advise the Minister, senior bureaucrats and privacy head
Allan Fels, and will work with lead advisory firm Booz Allen Hamilton.

The project lead - office of the access card deputy secretary Kerri
Hartaland - worked with Ms Johnson and stepped into her shoes when she
left for the US.
