"We're doing a lot of work around the VoIP space" does not mean the same
as "We're doing a lot of work on VoIP".
Working on VOIP is not the same as, for instance, working on the legal
aspects of VOIP. Each is a (or at least can be interpreted as) different
aspects of the topic|issue|subject of VoIP. Using "space" is (IMHO) a
valid concept that conveys a meaning that is difficult to express, using
few words, in any other way.
Now, "fully sick". That's another kettle of a different colour.
