Howard, gotta jump you on this one :)

Technology is not something to assist in management decisions.  Technology 
is a tool to assist in management of ones work activities.  One can do 
nearly all things today without technology if required.

A piece of paper with ruled lines makes a fairly good spread sheet.  It 
might take longer and you might have to work out each formula on your 
fingers, but  a computer doesn't replace ones brain.

Ditto for letter writing :)

Even robotic automation could be replaced with humans lathing, cutting, 
shaping and grinding.  But it's not as accurate and repeatable.  Still 
people do still manually blow glass bottles when machines could do the job 
faster and almost clone like.

In 2001 when I retired from the IT&T market, I discovered the transition 
from Technology as a product to Technology as a tool.  And boy did my life 
change.

I don't relay on technology any more, for my income or my work.  I just use 
it because it's convenient and it makes life easier.  I can still make 
films without a laptop and digital camera.  But technology tools make it 
faster and easier.
