Of course this is right, unless the trees are cut down and the wood used as
a substitute for fossil fuels.

Million-year fossilised carbon is the problem, not carbon in the annual
biomass cycle.


I once had a reference to the difference in the amount of carbon sequestered
by an acre of average Australian bush, and the same area of reasonable wheat
crops.  If you take into account the amount of carbon held in soils in
farmland, there was very little difference.
