I know this is getting OT,
but I remember when I lived in the outback, going to visit many, many
places that were remnants of past settlement, that got wiped out by
the droughts in the 1870's and then around Federation era.

It is very sad, when you see lots of fruit trees and what was once
an obviously happy home, abandoned and crumbling because not
enough rain fell and the opportunity to get water was impossible.

Now, in this modern age, where there are now bore pumps, the
settlements survived the last few droughts, but now there is not
enough water left in the bores.

Things are far worse than a 100 year drought event. Something
has to change soon or we'll be like one of those ancient Iranian cities,
left high and dry, a shrivelled vestige of a once wonderful
civilisation.
