And all this still completely ignores the two key points of my initial
article -- that (1) for my target audience of small businesses with a tiny
handful of employees (i.e. fewer than the 5-user point at which Microsoft
volume licensing might become a more cost-effective option, assuming that
Windows remains your operating system of choice anyway), (2) you should not
rush to upgrade to Vista now, as opposed to leaving it at least a few
months.
I still maintain that the vast majority of small business users still aren't
making use of more than 5% of the functionality of the software already on
their desktops. So why should they "rush" to spend *more* money on something
which is (1) unproven and (2) more resource-hungry?
What's the *rush*?
I completely support the idea of businesses making the best use of
technology to improve their competitiveness in the marketplace. But how does
upgrading to Vista *right now* do this -- compared with spending the same
amount of money on something else? What's the business case?
Apart from the need for a certain major international corporation to achieve
its quarterly targets, that is? Well, that's *their* problem.
I'm still not seeing a single argument which says that any business with
Windows-based systems should upgrade to Vista *today* or *this month* or
*any time in the next six months*.
