Perth water is pretty bad - you get a blast of chlorine ,when you open
the taps. Though that might be because it has vapourised in the hot pipes.
I recall the day Sydney siders switched to bottled water. I was at a
conference and when we returned from morning tea the water jug had been
replaced with water bottles. I think it was more an issue of being
provided with information and no context or benchmark. I have kept
drinking tap water. Though apparently latest research may show my pretty
good teeth may be more genetic than due to flouride.
For a sydney perspective on the water issue see

It should be interesting and hopefully a little entertaining to watch
Malcolm Turbull and Peter Garrett go head to head on the environment on
tonight's 7.30 report in Sydney. Guess it will be nationa.
