Since we're on a nostalgia trip, I had a (no doubt Japanese) Vega Model B1 crystal set in a bright green plastic case with an extendable antenna. It looked like some kind of space-age walkie-talkie, and I spent many happy hours lying on my bed as a small boy, a large pink earpiece in my lughole, delighted at the thought that some clever people had developed a radio that worked without batteries!!
(As an aside, this morning I remarked to a colleague who was lamenting that his watch battery had gone flat, that someone needs to invent a watch that works without batteries.)
