I had a self winding mechanical watch for years.  Had a little  
weighted planetary gear than wound it as you moved.

Right now I have a casio solar watch.  Unfortunately the rechargeable  
battery eventually stops working and has to be replaced after a few  
years so I can't see it's really that much better than an ordinary  
battery.
