Bore or recycled water aside (courses in California must use metered  
irrigation water alone), golf courses in Australia still require a  
good deal more water than your average water feature.

I wonder if any Australian golf course has begun to use the next- 
generation synthetic grass?

Developments in polyethylene/silicone/rubber/polypropylene fibre  
suggests that modern artificial turf is better than real grass  
(indistinguishable, safer in colder weather, longer lasting, tougher,  
and can be made from discarded rubber tyres).
