I doubt it is all the fault of the designers but is often the requirements
placed on them.  People will commission a web site and expect it to look
exactly like some printed brochures they have.  They will often insist on
static placement of images and other elements without thought to the medium
it is being displayed on.  I'm a great believer in the KISS principle in
relation to web pages.  I try to make the ones I do work in a text browser,
they might not look flash but I find them functional which is what counts to
me.

Certainly agree we all need to speak out against bad design however.  I
doubt it will be listened to very seriously though.
