That gong goes to the centre of the birth of the first industrial
revolution, not America.
It took more than 100 years for systemisation and industrialisation
to reach America (the second industrial revolution), unless my
history books are wrong.
I know that historians are still quibbling over the pace of the
revolution, to the extent that it might not have been one in the
first place. Lewis Mumford, for example, believes that the industrial
revolution began in the early Middle Ages (consider the Statute of
Monopolies 1623 - and the patenting of inventions).
