The iPhone buyer has the option of agreeing to a 2-yr contract with
AT&T, or can easily sidestep this and have a device that can browse
the web and act as an iPod, amongst other things. It hasn't been a
problem for some people who are not interested in being part of
AT&T's customer base. And there are enough people looking at opening
up other functions of their 'useless paperweight'.
The 'other sources' need better information.
