Asterisk (1.2) has a problem with DNS resolution: If it fails, it  
never rechecks. The best thing to do is hard-code IP addresses for  
your VoIP services, instead of using hostnames. This has resolved  
similar issues for our Asterisk boxes in the past.

Though, I have to be honest and say that we don't use external VoIP  
providers, but do have SIP/IAX2 links between our five Asterisk servers.
