Neither worked in Eudora. Both broke after: thatthisisgoingtowork/
As well as "<" and ">", rfc1738 also mentions the use of "quote
marks" to delimit URLs <http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1738.html>, thus:
One solution to the problem is to manufacture a short version of the
long address, using a redirection service, or quote the URL in a web
page of your own and reference that (which is what I try to do). In
some cases you can delete parts of long addresses which contain
unnecessary or duplicated information. Some web addresses contain
long numeric codes used to track the reader, removing these not only
shortens the address but aids privacy. Perhaps we need a little
utility for mail programs or the list software to do this automatically.
ps: I noticed you used my domain name for your test URL. To aid with
the testing I created a web page at the address to indicate the test
worked and at each level in the address to say it failed.
