and dog help us if we reform other laws based on fuzzy applications of
language: will farmers that despoil great swathes of virginal bush-land be
listed on the Sex Offenders Register ... because they've committed what many
advocates call "rape"?

I'm also sensing a "have your cake and eat it too" moment here: some want to
ignore how the language of the law when it comes to defining or labeling
some action, but to then apply the letter of those laws against the
perpetrators of those actions. You can't have it both ways, surely.
