An additional $67.6 million over three years has been provided by the
Federal Government to 14 Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres
funded under the Centres of Excellence scheme. Two National Priority
areas are targeted with the additional funding - Promoting and
Maintaining Good Health ($6,420,000) and Frontier Technologies for
Building and Transforming Australian Industries ($61,169,627). The
ARC Centres that received the most funding are in the areas of
Quantum Computer Technology; Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optical
Systems; Advanced Silicon Photovoltaics and Photonics; Biotechnology
and Development; Quantum-Atom Optics; Complex Dynamic Systems and
Control; Autonomous Systems; Functional Nanomaterials. www.arc.gov.au

Accenture is to establish an information technology development and
client support facility at the University of Wollongong, with the
potential to increase to 150 jobs. Staff will be initially housed in
Building 39 on campus but there are plans in the future to move the
facility to the Innovation Campus. The NSW Government is backing the
move through its Illawarra Advantage Fund.
