GPS directions take driver off-road

A Melbourne woman was lost in Victoria's south-west for more than two
hours last night, after following her car's GPS instructions down a
rough dirt road.

Sergeant Wayne Oakes says the woman in her 20s was driving from
Melbourne to the coastal town of Peterborough, but got lost in
bushland just south of Cobden.

She called 000 at 7:30pm AEST to say she was lost and her car was
stuck on the road.

Sergeant Oakes says it took police two-and-a-half hours to find her.

"She followed it and it wasn't quite as accurate as she'd hoped and
she ended up well and truly off the beaten track onto ... literally a
four-wheel drive only road," he said.

"I think she'd still be better off sticking to a road map and I think
she's likely to learn how to use it a little bit better."
