which is of great concern to organisations like Greenpeace because,
technically, some of their activities could very easily be classified
as "terrorism" because preventing a company from doing something evil
inherently causes economic harm.
speaking of terrorism, i thought it was interesting how the media
referred to the plot to kill US soldiers on a US base last week as a
terrorist plot, and they were charged under anti-terrorism laws. it
seems to me that killing soldiers, or attempting to kill soldiers, is
not terrorism, it is war.
soldiers and military support personnel and military infrastructure are
legitimate targets in war. civilians and civilian infrastructure are
not.
sure, they got caught and their plot was foiled (and that's a good
thing) - but they should be treated as prisoners of war rather than as
terrorists.
but terrorist and terrorism are some of those meaningless words used
solely for their ability to evoke an emotional response and override
reason.
