But surely this is a justified fear?

Microsoft's attraction is predicated on the standards it has set for itself in the past.   What will happen if it ceases to maintain those standards?  It may well already be happening - I read recently, but now can't find it, a report to the effect that vista profits are something of a shell game with capital.
