Not all 11n's are equal. The 11n process is ongoing, with a recent major release (2.0) being approved in March this year. That took the market from so-called 'pre-N' (series 1.x - which had several steps) to 'draft-N' (series 2.x), which took a lot of agreement work. The next step is to full N, which will be based on 3.x. 

How much your kit can move from one to the other is a firmware-upgrade question... Interoperability is another interesting question.
