Hi all,

Can't be said that the world appears very concerned with war
or climate change etc .. eg, a 60% surge in profits .. and, what
does this report appear to say regarding business confidence?

AFX News Date 17/5/2007 Time 06:58

SYDNEY (XFN-ASIA) - The (US) Dow Jones Industrials Average set a record
high overnight, dealers said.

Australian share prices ended higher, with the major benchmarks at record
levels, as local stocks found support from the overnight rally on US
sharemarkets, which climbed after data showing the Federal Reserve is
unlikely to raise interest rates ahead, dealers said.

They said local investors bought the major resource and banking stocks,
while shares of leading investment bank Macquarie for example posted a
fresh trading high on an analyst upgrade following the recent successful
750 million aud share placement, and its 60 percent surge in full-year
profit, to a record 1.46 billion aud.

Macquarie shares surged 4.30 aud to finish at a record 96.50 aud, after
earlier trading to an all-time high of 98.64 aud.

The S&P/ASX 200 closed up 71.3 points to a new record 6,365.9, beating
the May 10 record finish of 6,355.5.

The All Ordinaries index climbed 69.0 points to settle at a new record
close of 6,370.1, also surpassing its previous record close of 6,351.8
set on May 10 ...

So these are the good times
Ah, ok then, party on ..
