The blind person behind you might not. Or the person with reading
difficulties who can't read the station signs. I'm in Wellington, NZ
this week and heard a horrific story of their non-accessible rail
system and a blind woman who got on the wrong train. Because there are
no audible announcements, she dutifully counted stations until (what
she believed was) hers and managed to end up almost an hour out of
Wellington in the wrong direction and absolutely no idea where she was.
So, I think these noises should stay.
