Yes, the term for this is: ADVERTISING.  ;-)

Online video would be engaging, but annoying. Advertisements about 
something I am interested in are far less annoying. Well targeted 
image and text ads should be more effective. This is something Google 
seems to do much better than companies such as Amazon.com. Google's 
ads seem mostly relevant and is some cases worryingly so: as if 
Google is reading my mind (or at least just all my online interactions).

The Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA) issued 
guidelines for the size of ads on mobile phones in August. I will
