This is totally off topic and totally amusing: the Ig Nobel Prize winners,
as reported on Radio National this evening.

Interdisciplinary research:
Josiah S. Carberry, for his work in psychoceramics, the study of "cracked pots."

Peace:
Presented to the Taiwan National Parliament, for demonstrating that politicians
gain more by punching, kicking and gouging each other than by waging war against other nations.

Sociology:
Presented to Steve Penfold, of York University in Toronto, for doing his Ph.D.
thesis on the history of Canadian donut shops.

Computer Science:
Presented to Chris Niswander of Tucson, Arizona, for inventing PawSense, software
that detects when a cat is walking across your computer keyboard.

and so forth.

Sixteen years of top-notch, hilarious and thought provoking reasearch.

cheers
