I think the problem is the encoding and decoding don't match.
I have been having problems with replying to emails and using text from emails
in webpages - both Kwrite and Iceweazel tell me when a non-UTF-8 character has
snuck in. These are characters like quotes and hyphens.
However, reading the recent emails only the roman script seems to work.
When I chose the view/autodetect:
*the linebreaks/formatting seemed to disappear.
*the quoted non-roman text appeared incorrectly (I think this is because the
characters get scrambled by the highlighting of quoted text)
*the other sripts looked fine
