You just don't get it Marghanita. So you're telling me that because Wikipedia says so, that's fact? Maybe you should ask yourself if "centre" in the political spectrum is the same in Australia, the USA, Sweden, France, Germany, Chile, Japan, Botswana, Saudi Arabia...

It's not.

Read a little, and one only needs to read a little, of the politics and social values in various countries and you will quite easily see that there are distinct variations on what is centre, centre-right and centre-left. Indeed, just look at what Merkel proposed in her election campaign and has done since. Even without the "grand coalition", there is a snowflake's chance in hell of her introducing changes along the lines of Tories in Australia, the US or even the UK.

Stop quoting from Wikipedia and deal with reality.

David

According to <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre-right>
"The centre-right is a political term commonly used to describe or denote
individuals, political parties or organisations (such as think tanks) whose
views stretch from the centre to the right on the left-right spectrum, excluding
far right stances. Centre-right can also describe a coalition of centrist and
right-wing parties."

Wikipedia can facilitate a personal passing spectrum analysis of political
parties across countries.

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_political_parties_in_Germany#The_parties>

and perhaps the greens offer some calibration between Germany and Australia:
from <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Greens#Origins>
"During her 1984 visit to Australia, West German Greens parliamentarian Petra
Kelly urged that the various Greens groups in Australia develop a national
identity. Partly as a result of this, fifty Greens activists gathered in
Tasmania in December to organise a national conference[9]"
