It wouldn't be a scaled up version of what you get on a circuit board would
it? One big capacitor with two fat leads coming out waiting for something
to short them? Surely it would be designed as a matrix of smaller units
that are individually fused and would isolate on high-g impact, high
temperatures, etc, so that even if the thing took a direct destructive hit
only a small proportion of the stored energy would liberate. A car engine
or gearbox survives an accident that destroys the vehicle more or less
intact.
The modern idea for an electric car has an independently controlled
motor/generator for each wheel so each could have a separate storage unit.
Motor designs might possibly split this further.
Then again, a single unit that vaporised the vehicle on impact would induce
safer motoring :-)
