actually, it's not exactly first year IT. it's the Uni's "Informatics"
course, offered as both a Diploma and as breadth subjects for students
in other disciplines (as part of the new "Melbourne Model"), to give
them a grounding in IT. it can also be used as a pre-req for further
Computer Science/IT studies.

seems like a good thing to me for students in any faculty to pick
up a solid grounding in IT, but then i'm generally in favour of
cross-disciplinary studies....specialisation is for insects :-).



disclaimer: i work for melbourne uni (professional staff, not academic -
sysadmin at school of chemistry) but have no involvement in this course.
actually, no knowledge of it until you pointed it out.
