Yep, $1.30 per megabyte for Data and call charges are in fact the
same as your rate plan anyway.
Even roaming I still get my 30 cent flat rate 10 min landline calls
throughout Australia. And I get my 300 mins of FREE 3 to 3 calls in
ten min chucks too.
Calls to mobiles or other services vary, but in reality are the same
as your 'non roaming' charges. So I don't really care much. I think
it's the DATA aspect that is being clued at more than anything else.
When out of 3's 3G area, you have to switch to Telstra for coverage.
At $89 a month for 1 GB from Telstra -vs- $20 a month for 3GB from 3,
you can see that it's all very unbalanced.
Mind you, we've been in many a rural area, using Telstra SIM and not
being able to make a single phone call, or receive voice calls, yet
we can enjoy high speed broadband acess without batting an eye.
Sadly SKYPE, although it works, consumes much data at at 1GB a month
for $89, makes for VERY EXPENSIVE phone calls.
3, again, is cheap, with 4000 mins of free SKYPE TO SKYPE calls
included in your monthly Data Pack.
I've never been able to use even 500 mins of SKYPE TO SKYPE, and have
rarely ever used all my 3 to 3 Free calls. I have only on occasion
exceeded my Monthly included Credit allowance.
However looking at the bill each month, and the number of calls made,
one has to wonder why ANYONE would every be with Telstra cause the
difference is logarithmic.

Hehehe, I suspect the Data Streams :)
