[LINK] New intrusive calls - over voip

Linkers,
A 'new' phenomenon has arisen: using voip from anywhere [little cost
to the perpetrators] and denying they have a phone number to ring
back. Equally, no caller id possible. I had four of these suckers in
two days. After call number three, I posted a complaint on the DNC form.
The callers have south asian accents, start out by saying they are
from Telstra and twice the name was Ruby. The question asked is if
I'm a Telstra customer -- great give-away. If the caller is *from*
Telstra, wouldn't she or he know that already? When challenged with
that idea, of course they get flustered. When I demanded a phone
number, as required by law, the return is that they are calling by
computer and have no number. When I asked who they really work for,
they continue to insist on Telstra. After I filed the complaint, I
informed them they were acting illegally because I am on the DNC
register and have reported them to the Australian Communications
Authority. Of course that means nothing to these off-shore callers,
but they finally do hang up. On the last call, I insisted they remove
my number from their database. I haven't had any calls since the
weekend, but that may just be because it isn't the weekend. I'm not
holding my breath.
If anyone else gets similar calls, please complain to the DNC people.
The more complaints, the better. If there is a loophole in the law
that doesn't cover voip placed calls, there should be an amendment
and some method provided to stop this process, make them conform to
the law. They obviously must be working for some telecomms company,
but they aren't fessing up.
