I was considering both an iPhone (for voice) and a EEE 900 PC (for chores).

My EEE PC 900 arrived this arvo. By suppertime, I've got it configured
as I like it, on wireless and LAN. Anyone at home with Linux can do
the same in minutes. Beauty!

I'm on Skype talking to HK, browsing the interweb and thoroughly enjoying
this amazing Linux powerhouse.

I see so much potential in this little gadget that I've discarded
any ideas I had of owning an iPhone.

Instead of being locked in to a rather expensive 24-month plan just to
have Yet Another Gadget (YAG), for $500.00 I now completely own my
hardware (no lock in!) and can use it for whatever I want. I'll have
no problem developing software on it and I can do all the work I need
to do the way I want to. Not in Apple's way. My way. It might not
mean much to someone looking for an super-duper mobile phone.

But I was not looking for a super mobile phone. I was looking for
a super mobile device. About the only thing I don't have is mobile
telephony on this box. I don't care! I've never owned a mobile phone
and I doubt I ever will.

The future running cost of the EEE PC is about $0.00, given that
I can dig up an Internet access point.

And it's not a toy. It is a workhorse. It replaces a comparatively
bulky Mac Powerbook I've been using steadily for six years. And if
I accidentally drop this one, no harm done :)

I love having 16 GB of storage with zero moving parts.

cheers
