I tried the Cuil search engine <http://www.cuil.com/>. While the web
pages found were okay, the images returned were a little odd. As an
example, I searched for my own name
<http://www.cuil.com/search?q=tom+worthington>. The web pages found
were as expected: my home page, bio, some things I had written. But
the photos did not seem to match the web pages.
Alongside my home page was a photo of some houses. Bedise something I
wrote for the ACS was an image about "Campus Security". Beside
"Photos of Tom Worthington" was a picture I took of a church. There
was a cartoon next to "Some services provided", a picture of an organ
keyboard next to something on e-document production and so on.
When I repeated the search I got different web pages but the same images.
Also I could find no mention on the Cuil site of how they intend to
fund their service. But there is a blank column on the side of the
page which looks like it is reserved to put ads in. But then perhaps
this should all be seen of a sign of faith having Dot.Com boom type
startups in recessionary times.
