Dear Linkers,
The Department of Immigration has asked Sydney business - FCSOnline
<http://www.fcsonline.com.au/> to stop claiming its online identity
checking service includes access to passport data.
All FCSOnline has access to is the Departments free Visa Entitlement
Verification Online <http://www.immi.gov.au/vevo> service. .
But Electoral Commission officials have confirmed that FCSOnline's
owners - Perceptive Communications Ltd - are one of a number of
businesses that have been given official permission
to sell online access to voters details held in the Electoral Roll.
It's seems that Electoral Act regulations were amended last year to
facilitate the war on error and in particular, on money-laundering.
So now banks can access the electoral roll to do the identity checks
required by the new laws when someone wants to open a new account.
