The obfuscation in the PR - picked up and run without comment by the 
press - is between what the infrastructure can support and what people 
buy. So the story says "we will deliver broadband at 25 Mbps", and says 
that this is 100 times what people buy now.

Ignore for a moment the question of distance from the exchange, and 
ignore the progress of the Telstra ADSL2+ rollout.

Most broadband users can get 8 Mbps now (ie, top speed of Telstra 
ADSL1). Their purchase habits are restricted by whether they feel like 
paying higher prices for higher speeds.

I really dislike it when the journalist ignores the plainly obvious so 
as to help puff the political promise.
