One aspect of the Federal Budget which appears to have received almost no 
publicity is the shaving of $2.8 million off previously budgetted funding 
for the AFP's Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team ("OCSET") and also 
delay in previously planned increase in staff.

Such reduction and delay in OCSET funding appears ill-advised given 
indications that OCSET has been under-funded and hence under-resourced for 
years. If they have not been under-funded then questions should being asked 
about why OCSET's 35 staff have only made 62 arrests in the 2.75 years to 
September 2007, although they received more than 800 referrals of matters 
to investigate.
