[LINK] Digital education revolution not sustainable

In On Line Opinion this week I argue that the federal government's 
digital education revolution is not educationally, economically or 
environmentally sustainable:

Most of the $1.2 billion budget is for Year 9 to 12 students to have 
a computer each. Only about 8 per cent of the funds are being spent 
on networking, content and training. Individual computers for 
students are not the most educationally worthwhile use for computers. 
Good computer based content, training for teachers and an interactive 
white board for each classroom would be a better place to 
start.  There is no requirement for the computers to be energy 
efficient, so the result will likely be an increase in greenhouse emissions.
